While the country awaits an announcement from the Prime Minister following the address this morning from Professor Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance, speculation is rife concerning what measures will follow.
If bookies were taking odds, a national lockdown seems to be the only measure not being widely speculated on currently, while many potential actions seem contenders.
One action that would seem a ‘favourite’ is a curfew on opening times with pubs and other hospitality venues being prohibited selling alcohol after 10pm. It is also rumoured that police in England will from tomorrow be given powers to make arrests if social distancing in pubs and restaurants is not being followed.
The current lack of communication from government on what is happening is costing hospitality businesses greatly, not least in confused consumers who will stay at home.
