McDonald’s in the US has announced that effective from today, it will require all customers to wear face coverings when entering its restaurants due to new Covid-19 cases continuing to surge in many states. It will delay the re-opening of its dining rooms for another 30 days.
McDonald’s is the latest in a move by restaurants in the US issuing face mask mandates for its customers in the last week or so, including Starbucks also recently issued a similar face mask mandate across locations in the U.S.
McDonald’s said that 82% of its restaurants are in states or localities that already require facial coverings for both employees and customers. In a joint statement from McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger and Mark Salebra, chair of the National Franchise Leadership Alliance said they need to “protect the safety of all employees and customers”.
They went on to also say that where customers decline to wear a face mask, they will “put in place additional procedures to take care of them in a friendly, expedited way.”
