The surge in what can best be described as narcissistic behaviour by people out enjoying hospitality and showing no regard for the safety of others by ignoring Covid-19 safety measures is damaging hospitality.
Hospitality businesses that flout government Covid-19 guidelines or are simply lazy in their implementation are adding fuel to a fire in danger of consuming their more diligent peers.
It is therefore the responsibility of all conscientious hospitality businesses to have the same measure of tolerance for both narcissistic consumers and lazy hospitality businesses, zero.
Depending on how much ‘out and about’ readers have been indulging in visiting hospitality venues, it is blatantly apparent that there is an enormous variation in levels of safety measures taken to protect their health and wellbeing.
There are all too numerous examples of venues where Covid-19 safety measures are just not being implemented. Consumers visiting see this as a license to behave with no regard for others and inevitably outbreaks occur, and closures or even local lockdowns follow.
It is already a clear pattern and doubtless before the week is out more such incidents will be reported.
It is interesting that where we have seen poor levels of safety followed, poor levels of staff training are also apparent. Cutting corners to maximise revenues and hoping others won’t notice is a fool’s paradise.
