Rishi Sunak will today announce a series of further measures to help the hospitality industry to further combat the impact from Covid-19 amidst the ongoing crisis.
Following much of the hospitality industry in England reopening from last Saturday, these businesses do so in circumstances that continue to threaten their existence.
A reduction in the VAT rate would be a boost to encourage more people to return in greater numbers to enjoying hospitality at restaurants and pubs.
Help in creating jobs is expecting to be the main focus today of the Chancellor with emphasis on getting more young people into work.
Sunak will pledge to provide 30,000 new traineeships for young people in England, giving businesses £1,000 for each new work experience place they offer.
The Chancellor recognises young people could be the most negatively impacted by the crisis and employment, particularly as young people the segment of the UK workforce most likely to be on the government’s furlough scheme.
As in most industries, young people are the lifeblood of hospitality so all news to support young people in hospitality will be very welcome.
With the government’s furlough scheme due currently come to an end in October, alternatives will need to be in place.
It will also be interesting to see if The Chancellor makes any further statement on hospitality workers being taxed on company provided Covid-19 tests.
