Later today the Government is expected to announce hospitality in England to start reopening from 4th July and social distancing reduced from 2m to 1m.
Both make a world of difference to the hospitality industry closed since lockdown started on 23 March.
The past three months has seen hospitality impacted in such a way that reopening is now a challenge to all, especially given the short notice.
Reopening and the prerequisite adjustment processes to providing hospitality within a new world of social interaction needs time. Thankfully, many have been expecting the announcement and as such plans have been in development, so can now be deployed.
The Government is expected to at the same time as announcing reopening hospitality to do so under increased guidelines to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 contagion.
Speculation on what the guidelines will be include hospitality providers maintaining a database of consumers that visit. This would put another time consuming and costly responsibility on businesses. Businesses that had to survive with no revenues since lockdown and now face limited revenues in the months ahead as customers return at rates yet to be understood.
Reopening with balanced hospitality – Consumer focus
Consumers of hospitality will determine the recovery of hospitality. The restaurants, pubs and hotels that consumers frequented before the Covid-19 pandemic swept the world have gone.
Restaurants, pubs, hotels and every other hospitality venue will all need to have a new hospitality proposition for their customers, and safety will be their number one priority.
Hospitality providers will need to work with their customers, communicating in a balanced way, how the new world of hospitality works, and why it has been changed for the benefit of customers.
Working with consumers, ensuring they understand why changes are made and how that is to their advantage will earn loyalty, an even more valuable commodity than ever before.
