McDonald’s will reopen some of its restaurants next Wednesday to diners that wish to walk in and collect their food.
The openings will be at 11 restaurants located in Roadchef service stations on 17th June, allowing diners to enjoy a visit ‘in’ for the first time since the lockdown was imposed in March.
The QSR has said that only limited numbers of people will be allowed inside at any one time, not all menu items will be available, and with some facilities like toilets closed.
The motorway locations will allow diners to order and collect but not eat in, what the public seating policy will be inside the motorway service stations is unclear.
Anyone familiar with motorway service stations will immediately recognise the close proximity of many public seating areas to the restaurants. How sitting in one of those areas socially distanced is different to McDonald’s own seating areas under the same conditions is not clear. Maybe takeaway will be specified to outside of the service station for consumption.
CEO, McDonald’s UK & Ireland, Paul Pomroy said of the move: “Starting on Wednesday 17 June, in 11 Roadchef service station locations, we will welcome motorway users back inside our restaurants for the first time since March.
“We’re taking our time to get this right, reviewing our processes before we gradually roll-out to high streets, towns and city centres from 24th June onwards.”
Numerous health and safety procedures are in place at the McDonald restaurants with hand-sanitising stations in seating areas.
