Home Secretary Priti Patel later this afternoon is set to announce plans for people arriving in the UK to quarantine for two weeks.
The mind boggling question is why now?
In late February people arriving in the UK, showing symptoms of Covid-19 were immediately quarantined. They were treated at specialist centres at the Royal Free Hospital, London, and the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
Then around the time of lockdown it stopped.
Throughout lockdown when Covid-19 transmission was at its height, arriving in the UK, and at the rate of 15,000 a day into Heathrow alone, no quarantine procedures were in place. Or any other checks for that matter.
So, why implement self-imposed quarantine measures now? It just doesn’t make any sense at all.
As the Government seems to be coming under ever increasing criticism for moving away from following scientific advice, and following their own political agenda, this seems like a move away from common sense.
You would also almost, but not quite, feel sorry for Priti Patel, always the villain of the piece.
