The uncertainty surrounding the 4th July as the Government’s reopening date for the UK hospitality industry is leading some businesses within it to state they will open regardless of any further sanctions to go ahead.
As financial pressure reaches the point where hospitality businesses face permanent closure many doubtless are calculating that if sufficient numbers open irrespective of further approval, they may just avoid ruin.
It’s a risky strategy but some might say extreme situations require and justify extreme measures.
Peter Borg-Neal founder and CEO of Oakman Inns this morning on twitter announced Oakman will be opening all twenty five sites on the 4th July.
4th July Hospitality DayThe reaction is almost predictable and worth reading to gauge for yourself, hard support and hard opposition, with some middle ground but most clear on where they stand.
The Government has been resolute to date to do no more than use the 4th July as a benchmark, repeating the “at the earliest” ad infinitum.
Doubtless as the deadline approaches the temperature of this debate will rise further, the Government will surely have to end the speculation, this afternoon’s Downing Street briefing may just have an extra dynamic to it later.
