Casual Dining Group operates circa 250 restaurants including many of the high streets best known casual dining brands.
On Monday 18 May a notice of intention to appoint administrators was filed to buy some time in protecting the business from creditors.
Casual Dining Group operates Bella Italia, Belgo, Café Rouge, Huxleys, Oriel and Las Iguanas. Filing to work with business administrators will put a further 6,000 hospitality jobs at risk.
Alix Partners have been appointed to consider all options open and one could be administration for the entire group.
The impact from Covid-19 has not only seen all restaurants close, but also all rents remain open. As restaurants remain closed and rent as well as other fixed costs mount up, pressure is building on the entire hospitality sector.
Casual Dining Group administration – more dialogue would be a good outcome
Landlords of course need rent to be paid, watching businesses like Casual Dining Group disappear, if they do, will not get the rent paid. The unique situation restauranteurs and landlords across the UK find themselves in will hopefully through mutual necessity create more dialogue.
