Following Government guidance encouraging people to return to work, if safe, leading fast food operators act quickly to meet the opportunity.
McDonald’s has announced plans to reopen all of its UK and Ireland restaurants in early June offering fast food for drive through collection.
Delivery and drive through services are also being planned by Burger King UK opening 350 restaurants by the end of June.
Both of the fast food giants have implemented plans for more stringent safety protocols and say service will therefore be slower due to satisfying Government safety guidelines.
Both have issues detailed safety measures for customers, with McDonald’s stating theirs clearly.
- Having fewer people in the kitchen and service areas, serving a reduced menu over reduced hours
- Checking worker temperatures on arrival using contactless thermometers
- Installing perspex screens in key locations in the kitchen and service areas
- Providing staff with protective equipment such as gloves and face masks
- Providing additional training on cleanliness practices, including increased frequency of hand washing and extra sanitising of touch points around the restaurant
We understand that both will have limited menus, and social distancing is central to all plans. Additional training for all staff is being planned, with increased use of PPE.
Subway has also announced similar plans, with 600 grab and go outlets planned to reopen.
