Ranjit Singh, the founder of 2 Sisters Food Group, is set to buy Carluccio’s through Boparan Restaurants.
The potential acquisition would be through the administration process Carluccio’s is in, and if the deal goes ahead it would save about 900 jobs.
Boparan Restaurants already owns a number of well-known casual dining brands, so the fit looks like a good one.
Boparan operates the Ed’s Easy Diner, Fishworks, Giraffe and Slim Chickens UK chains.
The scope of the deal is not for all Carluccio’s outlets, reports are mixed, but seem to agree at circa 30 and includes the head office. As many as 40 outlets would then face permanent closure, which would add about 1,000 more job losses to an already damaged hospitality job board.
The Casual Dining Restaurant sector is amongst the worst hit sectors of hospitality from the Covid-19 pandemic, so let’s hope that the deal does go through, and 900 jobs are saved.
