Free local school meals provided to children in need
Two Kent publicans are raising both spirits and money to support their communities with the provision of free school meals for children.
Ben and Luck Chell, the owners of the Sans Pariel, Wainscott, decided to run a free school meal delivery service for those in need.
Government halts free school meals
The Government’s free school meal initiative has been halted due to the enforced closure of schools. So, locally the two publicans are doing their bit.
The initiative runs through Facebook, seeing Ben and Luke’s team open up the pub’s kitchen every weekday morning to prepare meal packs.
Publicans to the rescue
The meals are then delivered directly to those who have requested it.
All packs are created following the necessary health and safety procedures and deliveries are made adhering to the social distancing regulations.

Within just a few days of the campaign launching on social media was making an impact. Receiving more than 110,000 views, 1,600 shares, 1,500 likes, and generating £1,650.

Yes, schools are closed but many children in low income families still need support. Well done Ben and Luck Chell, another instance of hospitality helping out in a time of crisis.
The Government and local authorities should be leading the way here. Closing schools was sensible in light of the current Covid-19 crisis. Not filling the services gap, school meals in this instance is negligent.
