COVID-19 cover up by VP of UK’s Rhubarb in New York

Rhubarb vice president David Edwards tells Peak managers ‘not to disclose COVID-19’

Peak restaurant, run by UK-based hospitality group Rhubarb, is on the 101st floor of a skyscraper in New York’s Hudson Yards. High above the city and from one executive’s perspective, clearly high above any moral responsibilities too, according to New York’s restaurant website EATER New York.

EATER New York yesterday published news that Rhubarb vice president David Edwards told Peak managers not to disclose that a member of staff had tested positive for COVID-19.

In a screenshot of a WhatsApp group chat among Peak restaurant managers on Friday 13th March Edwards sends a message saying: “All staff know not to tell guests about the reported case?” Edwards’s then sends others including a message to Peak managers that asks employees to cover up the outbreak and reads: “Simply that Edge is closed as we don’t want to congregate large crowds in the order of public safety… please confirm.”

The full story can be seen here on the EATER New York website. New Yorkers are not best pleased with the behaviour to say the least.
