If there’s one email we particularly look forward to receiving every month, it’s Image of the Month from Majella O’Connell, aka Pavlova & Cream. Earlier today we received said email and enjoyed the privilege of reviewing a selection of twelve image candidates for our Image of the Month, and selected the one above.
It was captured at a Manchester Kitchen Social event that took place at Noones Fresh. The dish was created by Jason McCrellis, a chef at Gather & Gather and comprises Tempura prawn, with a Greek salad and sweet chilli dressing.
We are assured by O’Connell that the flavours were a sublime and complimentary combination that tasted even better than the image looks, if so, we are on our way to Manchester soon.
Asked about his inspiration for the dish by O’Connell at the shoot, McCrellis said: “It was inspired by a chef I worked with years ago at a hotel in Sherwood. I remember thinking it was an unusual mix of flavours, but I was surprised at how well they worked together.
“I’ve put it on a few menus and offered it as a Specials dish at different restaurants over the last few years. It’s a great little dish.”
The shot was taken with a soft box flash which gives it a subtle shadow but still lots of definition, especially on the prawns.
