All businesses need to keep their eyes on customer behaviour, Google Analytics makes this process easier and coupled with additional monitoring software can deliver both a macro and micro view. The nuts and bolts of web analytics isn’t the important takeaway here, understanding customers is.
We regularly report on UK consumer spending patterns across the UK to provide readers with usable business information. For us, consumer business information is understanding what hospitality and catering, foodservice professionals are looking for, and is how we prioritise our content flow.
For anyone unfamiliar with website analytics it is like personal consumer behaviour tracking in real time, and over any time period. It tells you in granular detail where your customers (readers for us) are coming from and what they are looking for, or at the very least what motivated the visit.
Organic Google Search (people who search Google) accounts for nearly 71% of our readership, this has a number of benefits. First, whatever information they are looking for Google has selected one of our pages as the best destination to meet the request. Second, we know what they are looking for from analysing the data. This allows us to then focus on providing more content to match what people are looking for, and Google already thinks we are their best recommendation for that type of content. Win, win.
So, what’s that got to do with Google now delivering foodservice recipes?
Last week we reported on Steve Groves, head chef at Roux at Parliament Square winning the Craft Guild of Chefs National Chef of the Year 2020. Groves winning such a high profile and prestigious competition has led to many who are not familiar with him searching Google for information. You don’t have to search Google very hard for Google to deliver you here – Five minutes with…. Steve Groves.
From an array of various Steve Groves related searches new readers land on one of these pages, and Groves has also created many recipes for us, and these are also highly visible.
From the new reader’s entry point Google then tracks their further reading, and we see people who search for one recipe, once they’ve found it then search for others. Thankfully we have hundreds so the searching and reading can continue for a long time.
So, this is exactly what Google has to do with delivering foodservice recipes and thank you to Google, Steve Groves and to many more of our recipe contributors over the years for helping in delivering them to our readership.
PLEASE NOTE: We are always on the lookout for new recipes for our readership. If you work in hospitality and catering, foodservice and would like to write one for us we would be delighted to hear from you. We are seeing greatly increased searching for and reading of plant-based, vegetarian and vegan recipes, and would be particularly pleased to add more of these to our recipe library.
