Four signs your hotel is not keeping pace with the market

By James Russell: Four signs your hotel is not keeping pace with the market

October 19, 2019

Are you struggling to keep up with the technological development that places greater demands on your hotel? Have you lost track of what a hotel must have to be at its best? Don’t worry, you’re hardly alone. In this blog post, we’ll give you four simple guidelines to help you identify where your hotel is keeping up.

Before you get started, you first need to ensure that the most basic parts of a hotel, such as cleanliness, safety, comfort, water, 24/7 service, lighting, smell, etc. are performing well. When you can check all these demands off your priority list, you can safely move on to the four points below.

  1. Slow WiFi

All types of hotel guests, whether they stay at a city hotel, a resort or a spa hotel, require a certain level of Internet connection – usually the highest. And if you have a business hotel, fast and secure WiFI is a must. Internet access is also expected to be free of charge. So, in order to meet all your guests’ expectations, you need to make sure you have fast WiFi that is easy to connect to. If not? Prioritise it!

  1. A booking system that doesn’t fit your business

A booking system that does not work as it should can use up an incredible amount of time, both from you and your staff – time that you could spend on your guests. Does your booking system provide a clear overview of your daily tasks? Do you have to switch between different screens or programs to get a general overview? Do you get to transfer information manually, since your other tools do not automatically integrate with your booking system? Sound familiar? Then it’s time to find a new booking system.

Today, there is a wide range of different systems on the market, but the primary challenge is finding something that fits your business and that can be integrated with your other systems. Many hotel providers offer a dashboard where you can get all data from your digital contact points – before, during and after the guest’s stay. This kind of live data is a great way for you to stay up to date on how the hotel is running right at this moment.

  1. An outdated website

How does your website work today? Have you gathered all the information that a potential hotel guest needs to know before making a reservation? Are there updated pictures and videos from the hotel and its surroundings, and especially the rooms? Keep in mind that your website is your most important channel to the outside world – make sure it represents and do your hotel justice.

  1. Online booking

Can your guests easily book a hotel room on your website? And is the online booking integrated with your booking system, so you don’t need to transfer it manually afterwards? If the answer is no, then you need to take care of it at once. An integrated online booking system not only makes your hotel more efficient, but will also help your potential guests.

If you make these four things your top priority, you will be on the right track towards keeping up with the market, your competitors and your customers. Don’t know how to get started? Ask for help from a specialist.
