Tastes like London opens with an abundance of food culture

By James Russell: Tastes like London opens with an abundance of food culture

September 10, 2019

Seven Dials Market opened last Saturday with 25 independent food businesses all with roots in the city’s streets and markets, alongside a bar and bookshop dedicated to all things food-related.

In-keeping with Seven Dials Market’s tagline, ‘tastes like London’, the progressive line-up of traders celebrates and promotes the capital’s many cultures and food talents.  Serving breakfast through to dinner, operators include…

  • The world’s first cheese conveyer belt Pick & Cheese
  • Award-winning vegan street food by Club Mexicana
  • London’s favourite Jewish deli, Monty’s Deli
  • Seafood restaurant, Claw
  • Strozapretti, the new past restaurant from the team that founded Franco Manca

Artisan London produce will also be on offer along Cucumber Alley, with family-run bakery, Karaway; British charcuterie champions, Crown & Queue; and Hackney Gelato’s small-batch ice cream, amongst others.

Championing London’s finest independent drinks producers, Seven Dials Market has partnered with East London Liquor Company and Gipsy Hill Brewing Company on its bar.

Offering exclusive house pours and collaborative cocktails, East London Liquor Company will also have a Bottle Shop on Cucumber Alley, for visitors to purchase their favourite distilled whisky, gin or vodka after a drink at the market bar.

Exclusive to Seven Dials Market and KERB bars, Gipsy Hill and the Seven Dials team has brewed a unique London Pilsner ‘KERB Lager’ as part of a wider selection of great craft beer.

Seven Dials Market design focuses on the character of Thomas Neal’s Warehouse. Thomas Neal’s Warehouse was built in the 19th century to store cucumbers and bananas, and the new Seven Dials Market celebrates this rich heritage.  It is divided into two distinct areas: Cucumber Alley is an indoor lane of specialist London producers; and the Banana Warehouse, home to an array of renowned street food traders and brand-new restaurants.

For the opening week (this week), the Roundhouse, one of London’s best music venues, is providing the soundtrack with a series of live music performances by outstanding emerging talent from their Resident Artists Programme, a scheme that facilitates young artists’ development as they transition into the creative industries.

Seven Dials Market, Earlham St, London WC2H 9LX

Opening hours: Monday – Saturday, 11am – 11pm Sunday, 12pm – 10.30pm
