Taking beef off hospitality and catering menus in the UKThe key learning for us is that sustainability has taken another step forward from being seen a few years ago as a ‘good thing’ to do, to a business essential. Businesses are applying sustainability principles and processes that are increasing profits. Business people want to understand empirical evidence of this, so we thank The University of Cambridge for their report.

For those interested in content analytics…
Tracking what people are spending their time reading in H&C News is the biggest part of how we prioritise what we publish, as well as how we distribute and through which channels. That said, the majority of our readership find what they are looking for through searching Google, and as such, we then need to understand what they are looking for, in order to increase coverage of that subject.
Our readership come through three channels and in this order 1. Organic Google Search 2. Social Media 3. email newsletters. We have used a key as follows – G = Google Organic Search S = Social Media e = email newsletter – to indicate the channel responsible for most of the readership alongside each news item headline above.
One major change we have noted over recent months is readership from the USA, it is growing and significantly. Analytics of course is limited to showing you numbers and not cause, that has to be worked on and is ongoing. Our readership is 94% UK and unsurprisingly as 99% of our content is about hospitality and catering in the UK.
Although we don’t have the full picture, yet, we are working on it and it seems at this point to be driven by people simply looking for UK market information. Interestingly our top story this week saw the most international mix of readership also. From Texas to Auckland plant based menus replacing beef and lamb on ‘institutional’ menus like those across The University of Cambridge at 14 foodservice outlets for three years is of note. See headlines 1 & 2 above.
We have this week published a news item from the USA – Birthplace of American counterculture sees Moxy NYC East Village open today. This article is similar in many ways to a London opening last week – Seven Dials Market London. As London and New York are similar in many ways and both being Global cities, it is interesting to see how similar both propositions are. Both bring key elements of the historical culture of their respective city to the forefront of an eclectic mix of hospitality and catering experiences, coincidence, we think not.
