Hospitality apprentices showcase skills in the House of Commons
Apprenticeship Minister Anne Milton MP and Tourism Minister Michael Ellis MP will join a record number of MP’s set to meet the 200 apprentices from the hospitality sector in the House of Commons tomorrow (Wednesday 6th) who will be showcasing their skills to Lords, Ladies, and MPs as they celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. The Ministers will be addressing the multi-talented apprentices performing in the Terrace Pavilion and the Churchill Rooms along with employers, parents and over 125 MPs drawn from constituencies across the country.
In its third year, the Hospitality Showcase unites companies to portray the diverse range of roles within the sector and to reiterate to government the importance of cross-party support to ensure the hospitality sector has the right foundations to continue to thrive in our towns, cities and villages. “We need a cohesive strategy across government departments to help hospitality”, said Keith Knowles OBE, Chairman of Perception Group who work to promote careers within the sector. “In particular, our education system needs to better understand and embrace the career opportunities and the flexibility that roles within hospitality offer and the range of entry levels open to all.
“From traineeships, apprenticeships, to graduate programmes this industry offers hope and scope across a range of abilities. A more joined up approach will enable this industry to develop home grown talent, as well as offer reassurance to companies who continue to invest in all areas of hospitality, offering real jobs that can fit flexible lifestyles as well as create the business leaders of the future.”
Also attending on the day is former Great British Bake Off winner and TV celebrity Candice Brown.
Candice who was brought up in a pub has returned to the trade recently opening her own gastro-pub, The Green Man in Eversholt and will be on hand to chat to the apprentices about her own experiences and aspirations.
