Alex Kammerling is ‘In The House’ for a Pancake Tuesday Takeover at Mark’s Bar

HIX Soho is kicking off its first ‘In the House’ cocktail collaboration this Pancake Tuesday with the founder of Kamm & Sons – Alex Kammerling behind Mark’s Bar on the 5th March between 6pm-9pm to meet guests, share his tips and mix up some special gin cocktails.

Providing a midweek gin and pancake spectacle, four innovative cocktails have been created for the evening, two by Alex and two by HIX’s creative bar manager Ethan Youel.

The cocktails are all available for just £10 and with Pancake Day celebrations taking place that night, Alex has also created a special Kamm & Sons marmalade, which will be used in one of his cocktails and alongside a special pancake dish (priced at £4.50).

The first 20 people to order a Kamm & Son cocktail will receive  a complimentary plate of boozy Kamm & Sons Marmalade pancakes.

To get the competitive juices flowing between Alex and Ethan, the most popular cocktail of the quartet during the night will be served as a special on the cocktail menu the following week so guests are being asked to vote with their taste buds.

The cocktails on show include:

Butterfly Negroni by Alex Kammerling

Mr Kamm’s Gin, Cocchi Americano (infused with Blue Butterfly Pea) and XXX bitters

Spit & Polish by Alex Kammerling

Mr Kamm’s Gin, Cynar, Grand Marnier, lemon juice and Kamm & Sons Marmalade

Kamm Son by Ethan Youel

Mr Kamm’s Gin, Cranberry, Pastis and Ginger Ale

Keep Kamm & Carry On by Ethan Youel

Mr Kamm’s Gin, Kamm & Sons British Aperitif, Elderflower, English Sparkling Wine and Soda.

Kamm & Sons was founded in 2011 by Alex Kammerling in his parent’s shed at the bottom of a garden in Finsbury Park.  Alex has been working in the drinks industry for over 24 years, having first cut his teeth making cocktails in bars, hotels and restaurants all over the world. In his time as a bartender, Alex has made drinks for royalty, rock stars, and world-class actors, invented hundreds of cocktails and published his own cocktail book.

Following the success of his first product – Kamm & Sons British Aperitif, Alex launched the company’s first London Dry Gin in 2018.  Mr. Kamm’s London Dry Gin is a modern interpretation of the classic London style using a colourful blend of 45 ingredients to enhance the flavours of traditional gin botanicals.  Fresh citrus yellows, herbaceous greens, sweet spiced ambers and fruity crimsons. Botanicals include ginseng, fresh grapefruit, lemon and orange peels, apricot kernel, hibiscus, rosehip, blue butterfly pea and citra hops.

Mr. Kamm’s is a barley-based gin made in a very small hand-beaten copper still in the traditional ‘one-shot’ method, meaning that instead of making a concentrated gin and blending that with more spirit, they use all of the spirit from the still to provide a better, deeper, more rounded flavour.

HIX Soho brings fish and shellfish to the forefront alongside British steaks and chops with an unrivalled dedication to seasonality and sourcing. The studded leather banquettes and dark oak floor of the dining room set the scene for comfort and indulgence in the heart of the west-end.

Tucked beneath HIX Soho is the subterranean sanctum Mark’s Bar. With a sunken bar, large chesterfields, international small plates ideal for sharing and a cocktail list championing British libations, Mark’s Bar is the unequivocal jewel of HIX Soho and widely known as one of the best bars in London.
