Planning Approval for £30m Holiday Resort Boosts Tourism in Cornwall

By James Russell: Planning Approval for £30m Holiday Resort Boosts Tourism in Cornwall

January 9, 2019

Tourism in Cornwall has received the best possible start to 2019 with granting of full planning approval for the re-development of Waterside Cornwall, an established country club and holiday park near Bodmin.

Situated close to the A30 west of Lanivet, the project will include 118 new eco-lodges, a 25m swimming pool, a children’s play pool, a gym, fitness studios, an indoor climbing centre, a sports hall, outdoor tennis courts & sports pitch, a boutique hotel with spa and wellness centre as well as enhanced restaurant, wedding and conference facilities. It is anticipated that the scheme will be built in several phases over the next 3-5 years.

Ian Slater, Resort Director commented, “Waterside has already benefitted from investment by the new owners over the past year. We are thrilled to get the green light for the new development which will mean the resort has a really exciting future.”

As well as new buildings, the proposals include a number of landscape enhancements across the 100 acre site such as an “avenue of gold” highlighting Cornwall’s mining heritage, a geological trail and arboretum, a sculpture area, nature trails with wildlife hides and ecological habitat creation.

The project has been masterminded by Devon based Peregrine Mears Architects, who specialise in the leisure & tourism sector. Practice Director Peregrine Mears, added, “We are really delighted to see Cornwall Council give their support to this project. It represents a very positive step for tourism provision in the South West and we’re excited about the positive effects it will have on the local community.”
