£1m pub boost plus new jobs on the way in Sheffield

By James Russell: £1m pub boost plus new jobs on the way in Sheffield

January 29, 2019

Star Pubs & Bars are making a £1.26 million investment in South Yorkshire community pubs to transform them into traditional locals creating 25 new jobs.

The pubs are in the Sheffield area and include The White Hart on Greenhill Main Road and The New Inn on Hemsworth Road in Sheffield and The Lord Reresby in the nearby village of Thrybergh.

Star Pubs & Bars says that with licensed operators having invested significantly in Sheffield city-centre pubs in recent years, residents of outer lying residential areas and villages now want to see similar quality and style at their locals and to be able to enjoy great food, coffee and entertainment on their doorsteps without the need for travel.

There are common themes to the projects, which Star Pubs & Bars believes are important to the success of community locals. All of the pubs will receive complete refurbishments to transform their dated décor and make them contemporary and comfortable. Kitchen refits and the creation of dining areas will enable them to introduce excellent food ranging from pies and burgers to curries and steaks whilst barista quality coffee machines will be added and coffees served all day. Cellars will also be upgraded with SmartDispense technology to ensure consistently good draught beer and cider, and new screens installed at The White Hart and The Lord Reresby to show Sky and BT sports.

The pubs’ outside areas will have major revamps, too, to give them stunning outdoor space. As well as redecorating the pubs externally to enhance their appearance, there will be new planting and patios plus heating and lighting for year-round alfresco eating and drinking. Children’s play areas are planned for each site.

Grant Morgan-Tolworthy, Star Pubs & Bars regional operations director for South Yorkshire said:  “To thrive community locals must keep pace with customers’ changing needs and expectations. Sheffield’s vibrant city-centre pub and bar scene is testimony to the benefit of investment. The expenditure at The White Hart, The Water Tower and The Lord Reresby will bring them up to date and broaden their appeal so that they’re sustainable for the long term.”

Star Pubs & Bars has 35 pubs in Sheffield and 105 across South Yorkshire.
