York Hotel presents suits donated during charity week to Harrogate Clothes Bank

By James Russell: York Hotel presents suits donated during charity week to Harrogate Clothes Bank

December 8, 2018

A York hotel has presented a wardrobe full of clothes – donated during a week-long charity drive – to a Harrogate organisation which supports people on low incomes.

The DoubleTree by Hilton York handed over the goods to volunteers from Harrogate Clothes Bank, which was launched by St Mark’s Church and is based at the Canaan Warehouse – which is one of the warehouses at McCarthy Storage World on Ripon Road – with second-hand suits and shirts following an “SOS” appeal to staff.

The “Share our Suits” initiative was held during Hilton’s wider Global Week of Service, and also included an appeal for shoes, handbags, shirts, blouses, ties, cufflinks, belts, coats, warm jackets, suit covers and carriers.

Nikki Brannan, Sales and Marketing Director for DoubleTree by Hilton York, said: “When we heard of the aims of Harrogate Clothes Bank we realised that this would be the perfect fit for our Global Week of Service.

“We were delighted with the show of support from the staff in getting behind our appeal and donating clothes to this fantastic cause.”

Michelle Hayes, Kingdom Life Director at St Mark’s Church, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the donation from the DoubleTree by Hilton York.

“The service we provide is for anyone on a low income, and the suits can be used by those attending interviews or starting jobs who can’t afford to buy their own.

“We are aware that many people are just about managing and we hope that they will come and get things they need as no one should go without warm clothes or miss an interview because they have not got a suit.”

Items the Harrogate Clothes Bank stock include clothes and shoes for babies, children and adults; suits for people having interviews, bedding, toys and baby equipment – namely pushchairs, stair gates, baby baths, and Moses baskets.

The Harrogate Clothes Bank is open from 10.30am-12.30pm on the second Friday and the last Saturday of the month though it will not be open on Saturday, December 29.
