Why Meiko? John Campbell sits down to discuss, in detail

By James Russell: Why Meiko? John Campbell sits down to discuss, in detail

November 5, 2018

Meiko UK have been working with John Campbell for fifteen years and recently visited The Woodspeen in Newbury, Berkshire to catch up with John and interview him. H&C News are delighted to feature the interview below in full.

Having watched the video ourselves several times, there are some quotes from Jon Campbell that caught our ears…

Judge for yourselves in the video but the restaurant is inviting, as soon as you enter it has a fresh, clean look, very open spaces with as described in the video a ‘Scandic, Nordic feel’.

During the interview John Campbell describes the original concept: “a really relaxed environment, no stuffiness, very casual. Creating a community restaurant was the goal to pull in the community, accessibility being most important, and all are welcome. Everyone is our customer from 102 year olds to 2 year olds.”

Why Meiko?

John Campbell: “I’ve been working with Meiko for fifteen/sixteen years and one thing that really inspired me and was really the catalyst for me to always go back to Meiko was the reverse osmosis machine.

“The key element of that machine being the handling of the glassware, glassware is crystal clean the moment it comes out. That is a great advantage to a business owner being economically friendly and ergonomically friendly.

“What I like about it is I’m getting no complaints from the kitchen porters.

“The auto hood machine, the hood goes down, the dishes wash and then the hood goes up, there’s no interruption. The machine takes things away – a labour saving and a commercial saving.”

Team approach is very apparent through the interview and is typified with the statement, “If the kitchen porters are happy, personally the most important people in my business. I’m happy.”

To complete the interview why and the way in which John Campbell has ‘worked with’ Meiko was summarised by: “The partners we engage with is important, partners help you run the business, Meiko is part of that relationship and I’m very proud to have them on board.”
