Grays & Feather, a new boutique sparkling wine bar and wine merchant, has now opened its doors in the midst of Covent Garden on Wellington Street. The first of its kind, the concept specialises in sparkling wines from around the world offering guests exploration, education and, most importantly, the enjoyment of bubbly, without breaking the bank! With a huge library of award winning bubbly, Grays & Feather will take guests on a journey through fizz; from the rolling hills of England to the southern peaks of Patagonia.
Designed as an escape from the city and inspired by wanderlust and travel, Grays & Feather showcases undiscovered and unusual wines from small, hidden experimental winemakers from across the globe. The wine list is grouped by flavour profiles enabling guests to instinctively select something they know they will enjoy; with over 30 sparkling whites from full bodied to bone dry low dosage options and 10 types of English fizz, plus five fruity sparkling roses and five intriguing sparkling reds. Wines are also available to take away.
The comprehensive wine list is complemented by a menu designed for sharing, offering a wholly social experience; just as bubbles should be enjoyed! Small plates include den miso glazed aubergine with anise, salsa and peanuts; smoked salmon tartare; nduja and crab roll. Larger sharing dishes include winter warmers such as duck and sausage cassoulet and vacherin for two. Sharing boards include cheese, farm (meats), forest (vegan) and ocean (fish). While tempting desserts include a vegan peanut butter brownie and scorched marshmallow and semifreddo No.1 with matcha, chocolate, pistachio and pollen.
The 60 cover bar and shop sits across the ground floor and basement of 26 Wellington Street which boasts a blue plaque as a former office of Charles Dickens. The ground floor is flooded with natural light from the large shop front windows of the corner building. A grand French dresser-style wine storage unit is finished with baroque details and also houses interesting trinkets and curiosities from across the world. Walls are pale, with wooden floors and furniture and royal blue velvet chairs. Downstairs the basement is kept sultry with low lighting, teal walls and a gilded bar. Two alcoves offer semi-private bookable areas with banquet seating, the larger of which features a stunning feather mural. Furnishings downstairs are eclectic, with bar stools, bistro and floral upholstered vintage-style dining chairs. An abundance of plants feature throughout both floors, evoking a sense of nature and flash of green akin to a lush vineyard.
Grays & Feather takes its name from founder and sparkling wine expert Andrew Gray and his wine merchant business of the same name, found online and at the Southbank Food Market. Accolades to date include being shortlisted by the International Wine Challenge as both Specialist Merchant of the year and Sparkling & Champagne Innovator of the Year.
Grays & Feather wine bar will be championing sparkling wine in every essence, with Andrew and team guiding guests to explore uncharted territories without leaving London to imbibe and discover their own “new Prosecco”.
