glh Hotels eliminate plastic straws from all properties

By James Russell: glh Hotels eliminate plastic straws from all properties

October 3, 2018

glh Hotels has today announced that they have removed all plastic straws from their 17 properties.

Over the last 12 months, nearly 400,000 plastic straws were used by London’s largest hotel operator, which will now all be replaced by paper straws in all of their bars and restaurants. This is the latest green initiative to be introduced to glh Hotels, alongside other sustainable actions including installing LED lighting, reducing flow taps in guest rooms and investing in more energy efficient equipment.

Mike Magrane, Operations Director at glh Hotels said, “Eliminating plastic straws is just the latest development in our commitment to becoming more environmentally conscious. With more than 12 million tonnes of plastic entering our oceans every year – glh Hotels are proud to be reducing plastic consumption and taking a step in the right direction in helping the world become a plastic free environment.”

From today, the completely biodegradable paper straws, will be disposed of via glh Hotel’s recycling waste stream – taking only three months to decompose, instead of 200 years.
