The Brink has launched three new Labour Party mocktails, including a Jezza Colada, just in time to welcome the Party’s Annual Conference to Liverpool.
Jezza ColadaAvailable from Sunday, 23 September to Wednesday, 26 September, its trio of alcohol-free tipples also includes a Keir Royale, named after the first Labour leader Keir Hardie.
The dry bar on Parr Street – just minutes’ walk from the conference centre – is a social enterprise owned and run by charity Action on Addiction, and has created its mocktails to raise awareness of the community work undertaken at The Brink, which will be discussed at the conference by General Manager Carl Bell.
Carl said: “Whilst the mocktails are a bit a fun, behind them sits a very serious message. Addiction causes chaos within families, workplaces, social networks and, in some cases, whole communities. But, with the right treatment and support people can be very successful at both establishing and maintaining a fulfilled life in recovery.
Kier Hardie“The Brink is a unique community hub in the heart of Liverpool. Everyone is welcome here and we hope that more people will come and visit us during the conference, whether to try our mocktails, become more involved in the community or simply enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat.”
Since establishing in 2011, The Brink has worked closely with those affected by addiction within Merseyside to support them in a number of way whilst also changing perceptions and educating the wider community on this life-changing illness.
Carl added: “The Brink is much more than a dry bar, it is the heart of the recovery community in Liverpool, providing peer support, counselling and routes to further treatment for individuals and families trapped in the grip of addiction. We provide employment, training and volunteering opportunities to help recovering addicts move forward with their lives and live a sustainable and purposeful life in recovery.
“At a time when the sector has seen cuts of over £160 million to drug and alcohol treatment despite over 600,000 individuals in the UK suffering with addiction, we are inviting visitors to the Labour Party Conference to take time out of the pub, come to The Brink and meet the local recovery community and see first-hand how we can change lives.”
