Charingworth Manor recently played host to the Midland Rolls-Royce Club for a special lunch and treasure hunt around the Cotswolds.
Following some much-needed refreshments, the club’s 42 members set off in 15 classic Rolls-Royce motor cars ranging from the 1920s to 2000s on a 25-mile drive to explore the beautiful scenery while looking for a series of cryptic clues and hidden treasures to find along the route.
After a few hours out on the road, the group of vintage car aficionados returned to Charingworth Manor for a three-course lunch in the hotel’s Orangery. The trip is part of a growing number of car clubs to visit the hotel recently – some 36 Bugatti and AmilCar race cars from the 1920s from the Pegasus Amilcar Club made the trip from the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France.
The Midland Rolls-Royce Club is an independent club that was originally formed in 1958 as a self-help association for owners of pre-war vehicles. Members aim to meet one Sunday a month for lunch, often incorporating a visit to a house or museum, usually in and around the West Midlands area.
Richard Sprigg, who organised and hosted the visit along with fellow member Dennis Betteridge, says the event was a great success: “Everyone that attended the event loved the treasure hunt. The location of the hotel was fantastic, with spectacular views and great scenery. The service from all of the hotel staff was first class and our lunch was outstanding.”
