Sales soar to €222 million as the brand prepares to welcome its seventh UK hotel in Glasgow
Strengthening its position in the European hospitality market, design hotel group Motel One continues to report positive figures with 65 hotels and 18,064 rooms currently in operation.
Key highlights for the first half of the year:
A French and Spanish Market debut: During the first half of 2018 Motel One saw Paris-Porte Dorée become the brand’s first hotel in France. The 255-room hotel in the capital’s 12th arrondissement takes its inspiration from the nearby Bois de Vincennes park and lively local art scene. The Motel One Barcelona-Ciutadella marks another successful opening in the European market. The hotel takes its theme from the Parc de la Ciutadella, the green lung of the Catlonian capital, and has a total of 301 rooms.
Key investment in re-design: Q2 saw Motel One Vienna-Westbahnhof and Motel One Berlin-Ku‘Dam undergo a significant redesign, testament to the design hotel group’s commitment to stringent quality standards. €7 million was invested in overhauling the 441-room Vienna-Westbahnhof and EUR 4.5 million was invested in the 255-room Berlin-Ku’Dam, it’s second re-design since opening in 2007.
Sales growth: the brand saw sales soar 20% to €222 million (previous year €185 million. EBITDA increased by 17% to €65 million (previous year: €56 million). The occupancy remained stable at 74% (previous year 77%).
The group continues to report an expanding portfolio. The development pipeline consists of 29 hotels with 9,414 rooms (previous year 30 hotels with 9,902 rooms). The second half of 2018 will see new openings in Glasgow, Bonn, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Cologne and Munich. Motel One Glasgow will be the brand‘s seventh opening in the UK, and the largest hotel in Scotland at 374 rooms.
