Joe Allen opens the stage door for a series of west end musical brunches

By James Russell: Joe Allen opens the stage door for a series of west end musical brunches

July 14, 2018

On 29th July, Joe Allen, theatreland’s American brasserie, will team up with some of the West End’s best-loved shows for a series of one-off musical brunches. Joe Allen has invited cast members from its favourite musicals – starting with Bat Out Of Hell – to perform live at its Burleigh Street home, giving brunch-goers the chance to hear some of the best voices in the West End perform a very special acoustic set.

Each performance will include an eclectic mix of songs, including a selection of the show’s most memorable tunes and picks from the Great American songbook. The curtain will go up on 29thJuly with the stars of Meatloaf-inspired rock epic Bat Out Of Hell performing songs from the smash hit show, including Christine Bennington, Danielle Steers, Alex Thomas-Smith and Andrew Polec, who was crowned winner of Joe Allen’s ‘Best West End Debut’ award at this year’s Stage Theatre Awards. Next up, further casts of the best West End shows in town will gather to sing around Joe’s historic piano.

During each all-American brunch, cast members will take to the stage for a series of short performances throughout the afternoon.  Guests will be treated to their pick from Joe’s brunch menu including blueberry pancakes and maple syrup with poached strawberries and sweetened mascarpone; Grilled steak and eggs with hash browns and tomatoes; Lobster brioche roll with poached lobster, spicy mayonnaise and French fries; and Macaroni and cheese, with tomato and shallot salad. For those in the know, Joe Allen’s secret burger remains a must-do, off-menu order. It wouldn’t be a New York brunch without some classic cocktails, including White Peach Prosecco Bellinis and Royal Ginger, alongside freshly-brewed Paradiso coffee.

‘Joe Allen has such a fantastic theatrical heritage, and we’re thrilled to be welcoming the stars of some of our most-loved musicals to tread the boards at Burleigh Street,’ says co-owner Tim Healy. ‘Joe Allen has been known as the West End canteen for years, thanks to all the stars who come to Joe’s after the curtain goes down. These brunches will showcase our two favourite things, musical theatre and great food – we’re hoping this will be the most entertaining brunch in London, and we can’t wait to kick it off with Bat Out Of Hell,’ adds Lawrence Hartley.
