The Peach Pub Company has welcomed the chance to publish the Gender Pay Gap information as well as set out how it is working hard to make life Peachy for all.
The award-winning pub company, named a Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work. For both last year and the year before, has revealed that its median gender pay gap for all employees is 3.7%, a figure which compares favourably with other UK pub companies, and that its median bonus pay gap is 30%. With the average median gender pay gap declared in the UK at 18.4% and 11% in the public sector, Peach believes it is making progress.
“We are committed to the principle of equal pay for the roles performed and to paying a good rate for all roles as a matter of fairness” says Peach MD Hamish Stoddart. “We are also working hard to equalise the pay gap at Peach and believe we will close it. But we are not complacent – we know we have some way to go, especially on the bonus gap, and we are constantly aiming for improvements.
“Our bonus gap is wider than we would like, because at the moment, we have more men in roles that are eligible for a bonus payment, primarily in senior chef roles. We do better front of house, where almost 50% of our general managers are female, and among our board of directors which is also far more balanced than most with three women and three men.
Hamish Stoddart, Peach MD“Our whole sector needs to focus on employing and promoting more women in chef and senior executive roles and we would like to beat the industry in these areas, but there is more work to be done,” he says.
Peach’s approach is to employ more women in the kitchen and to focus on developing the career path for its female chefs by offering strong apprenticeships alongside on-going training. Peach also strives to be an attractive employer for those with caring responsibilities by continuing to offer a flexible approach to working practices, especially for maternity or parental leave.
“We don’t believe in positive discrimination,” continues Hamish. “We do believe that every Peachy person should be the best they can be and be rewarded for that. And it’s fantastic to see it happening and to celebrate it when it does.
“One recent example is up there with the best – Embankment general manager Gemma Mallett, who recently became an Ultimate Peach GM on her route to Peach partnership. With the support and training she received, she did it within four years, becoming a mum along the way. Her words about progressing at Peach came from the heart and we put them up as a blog on our website.
