Coombe Abbey Hotel takes over the running of a Park Cafe

By James Russell: Coombe Abbey Hotel takes over the running of a Park Cafe

June 2, 2018

A Warwickshire hotel has taken over the running of a popular café which has reopened its doors at a beauty spot.

Coombe Abbey Hotel now operates the eatery, which is based in the Visitor Centre at Coombe Abbey Country Park.

Renamed Café in the Park, it is open to the all visitors and it is hoped that the site will become a community hub used by a wide range of people.

Formally known as The Heron Café, it closed its doors at the end of 2017 for work to be carried out behind the scenes in the kitchen area and it has had new equipment installed.

A teddy bear’s picnic will be running for parents and youngsters on a weekly basis, and the plan is to stage barbecues. The café is also now licensed and sells wine, beer and cider.

Not only that, the hotel is also reopening the first floor of the Visitor Centre to members of the public and naming it Pub in the Park.

Closed for more than 10 years, it is hoped that the pub will be open with in the next few weeks and will feature two large projector screens at the venue showing major sporting events.

Ron Terry, general manager at Coombe Abbey Hotel, said the team is looking to bring a new lease of life to the Visitor Centre.

“The cafe has always been an extremely popular facility at the country park and we are very pleased to be taking over the running of it,” he said.

“We are also very much looking forward to opening up the first floor of the centre for Pub in the Park – breathing new life into the facility and making sure it is there for all visitors to Coombe Abbey and the whole community.

“The café was closed for a few months and in that time new kitchen equipment has been installed to make sure that it has everything that is needed for staff to create delicious meals.

“Not much is changing at the café, it will still be very much a place for everyone to come and enjoy tasty, wholesome food.

“But we want to make sure that it continues to be somewhere people can relax before and after walking around the acres of countryside on offer.

“What’s more, we are adding something new with the Pub in the Park, we think it’s the perfect time to also re-open this and we will have more details about when it is opening very soon.

“This highlights the strengthened relationship that has happened since Coventry City Council bought the hotel.”

Café in the Park will be open seven days a week and will welcome in visitors between 8am and 7pm.
