£70,000 cash injection for college Catering department

By James Russell: £70,000 cash injection for college Catering department

June 4, 2018

Molly Shaher, Chair of PACE

Middlesbrough College has been granted £70,574 from Savoy Educational Trust, a charitable trust who aim to advance and develop education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry.

The money has been granted following a successful application offered at the PACE Conference in May 2017. PACE (Professional Association for Catering Education) are the representative body for the hospitality and catering education and training sector.

The money will be used towards developing the Confectionary, Patisserie and Butchery facilities and equipment at College. This will provide the essential stepping stones towards supporting the development of a professional butchery training section, alongside building capacity and capability to deliver the National Skills Academy Bakery Trailblazer apprenticeship programme.

Supporting these two developments will widen the ability to train learners in advanced bakery, butchery, chocolate & confectionary and allow access to that level of expertise to the wider community. This will help to develop and enhance the College’s curriculum offer and give all students the opportunity to develop their skills on this specialist equipment.

Once in place, this additional equipment and resource will enhance the College’s application for Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) status.

Molly said “I am over the moon to have secured the grant from the Savoy Educational Trust. The money will help to expand our facilities and train future generations of Chefs.”
