Star launches weekly e-learning for licensees via Facebook

By James Russell: Star launches weekly e-learning for licensees via Facebook

May 1, 2018

Star Pubs & Bars is launching weekly business coaching for its licensees via its Facebook page. Called “Business Breakfast”, the sessions will go live every Wednesday and provide training on all aspects of running a pub – from recruitment to marketing – as well as guidance on issues affecting licensees.

Each Business Breakfast will take the form of a short E-learning course with bespoke content created by specialists from within Star Pubs & Bars. The courses will last between one and ten minutes and include links to further resources.

The first session is on 2nd May and provides an easy-to-understand overview of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the sorts of measures licensees must take to comply. Other topics planned range from barbecuing to minimising PCI (Payment Card Industry) charges. The company is also encouraging Star licensees to put forward topics they would like covered.

Created by Star Pubs & Bars using CPL’s Custom Course Creator software, the Business Breakfasts feature videos and animations to bring them to life. Much of the content is suitable for licensees to use for staff training.

Explains Michael Soderquest, Star Pubs & Bars’ Head of Training: “E-learning is revolutionising training in the pub industry, making it much more accessible. It enables licensees to receive high quality training that’s relevant to their business without leaving their pub and to share it with staff as part of their development.

“Licensees are extremely busy, and the concise format of our Business Breakfasts is designed to address that. Larger topics can be broken down into bite-size chunks focusing on individual insights and ideas that are quick and easy to implement.”

The Business Breakfasts build on Star’s existing suite of training courses for licensees, which includes longer E-learning modules, free one-day workshops and residential courses.

Adds Soderquest, “The sky is the limit when you create your own E-learning. The Business Breakfasts will enable us to cover a lot more topics, roll out training to address changes in the industry as they happen and provide regular personal development for our licensees.”
