Huntsham Court owners Christopher Badham and Damian Llambias expect their new restaurant and bar with five bedrooms,The Ginger Peanut, now officially open,to provide a hothouse for regional hospitality talent.
Restoring the Grade II listed building to viable and sustainable use has been a long term dream for the owners of Devon’s premier private hire location and this spring they, with award-winning Chef Peter Mundy, now welcome guests to The Ginger Peanut in the heart of Bampton conservation area.
All bedrooms are ensuite and individually appointed in a contemporary style sympathetic to the building’s heritage. The guest-focused philosophy of Huntsham Court is apparent here too, as guests may choose to enjoy breakfast on site or at one of the carefully selected cafe partners in the town, and a well-stocked shared pantry – an innovation inspired by the baronial manor house – offers complimentary self-serve teas, coffees, sweet and savoury treats day and night.
Christopher Badham said: “We’re committed to ensuring The Ginger Peanut not only offers our guests a memorable place to eat, drink and sleep but also enriches the local community. Our goal and vision is for the venue to provide a stepping stone for local talent. We meet the highest standards for our discerning guests at Huntsham Court and now we have another property that provides a career catalyst for Devonians looking to gain national and wider level experience to hone their hospitality skills.”
Badham and Llambias fell in love with Huntsham Court and after considerable investment in refurbishment opened the 35-bedroom manor as an exclusive hire venue in 2012. They have applied similar verve and flair to The Ginger Peanut.
Llambias added: “Over the years we kept our eyes on a number of potential venues in the area close to Huntsham Court and we were delighted to restore this once-neglected building in the heart of Bampton to a new life as a restaurant and bar with stylish bedrooms. Whilst the venues are markedly different in personality and remain separate entities, we now have the flexibility to accommodate 92 overnight guests across the two properties.”
Peter Mundy brings many years of expertise to The Ginger Peanut, having trained in Classic French and Modern British cuisines with acclaimed chef Paul Groom. He has run an award-winning catering business across Devon and Somerset for over a decade.
Peter said: “The Ginger Peanut is an exciting addition to the south west hotel scene and adds another incredible foodie destination to the village, which has already established itselfas a gastronomic hub. In addition to our relationships with Devon and Somerset farmers and suppliers, some of whom already work with Huntsham Court, we’re fostering young talent by partnering with local colleges to help train those with culinary ambitions.”
