By James Russell: The Bloomsbury Club Bar welcomes internationally acclaimed, Madrid based bar, 1862 Dry Bar

April 14, 2018

The Bloomsbury Club Bar (BCB) is delighted to announce it will be welcoming the internationally acclaimed 1862 Dry Bar from Madrid, Spain as the fifth guest in its hugely successful Club Residencies Project.

World renowned 1862 Dry Bar – previously the winner of the “Best Spanish Cocktail Bar” Award in Mixology X Trends in Madrid – will kick-off a four day residency at the BCB on Tuesday 24th April 2018.  They will be showcasing a bespoke cocktail menu featuring five of their signature drinks including the refreshing Apple Stormy, a rye whiskey based drink combined with ginger beer and the popular Prescription, which combines Punt e Mes, Amer Picon, Campari and lemon juice, alongside their unique twists on three of the BCB’s own cocktails.

BCB’s ‘Club Residencies Project’ launched in November 2016 to great acclaim.  It kicked off with a residency from Athens’ The Clumsies, shortly followed by the first ever residency from New York’s  award winning BlackTail – voted best bar in America – and most recently, a residency from Australia, The Baxter Inn.

BCB’s Manager Brian Calleja says: “I am delighted to be continuing to host the world’s best bars as part our Club Residencies Project and look forward to joining forces with the incredibly talented team from 1862 Dry Bar.  Our customers love this unique offering and it’s great to collaborate with the best of best.”

During the evening, guests can expect to be transported to Madrid and absorb themselves in the full 1862 Dry Bar experience – there will be authentic Spanish music each night and a bespoke tapas menu will be available, taking inspiration from 1862’s signature dishes. Highlights include: Jamón Ibérico; Tortilla Española; Spanish cheese board; Patatas bravas, Calamari rolls and Churros.

1862 Dry Bar is a classic cocktail bar set-up in an ancient palace in the center of historic Madrid. Named after the year in which the ancient palace was built and also the year the first cocktail book in history was published in the United States (‘The Bon Vivant’s Companion’ by Professor Jerry Thomas) 1862 Dry Bar is now recognised as one of the Spain’s best cocktail bars. Since its opening, 1862 Dry Bar has received awards such as the “Best Cocktail Bar in Spain” in 2014 at the FIBAR Fair in Valladolid, as well as being shortlisted for “Best International Cocktail Bar” by “Tales of the Cocktails” last year

During the four day residency, guests at The BCB will be able to order from the exclusive menu, including five of 1862 Dry Bar’s signature cocktails; Pelo y Pluma, Gin Mahon, fig liqueur , peaty whisky, honey syrup, lime juice, topped with mango lemonade;  Quincey Roy, Highland Park 12, Quince-infused Palo Cortado sherry, orgeat and Pimento Dram; Oliete, Gin mare, Banks 5 rum, lemon juice, rosemary syrup, olive bitters, Egg white topped with club soda, Apple Stormy, Rye whiskey, apple juice, lime juice, absinth, Egg white and topped with ginger beer and Prescription, Punt e Mes, Amer Picon, Campari, sugar syrup, lemon juice, and Egg white

Guests can also choose from three of the BCB’s “improved” classic cocktails including; Gimlet, Sipsmith and Rose’s Lime Cordial; Brandy Crusta, Brandy Torres Reserva, Brandy Torres 20, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, lemon juice, sugar and a dash of Angostura and Adonis, Amontillado VORS, Red vermouth, East India cream and two dashes of orange bitters.  Along with this unique offering, the 1862 team will also be bringing a selection of their most popular sherrys to the Bloomsbury Club Bar, further providing guests with an authentic taste of Spain.

The Bloomsbury Club Bar is a moody, seductive and atmospheric space, creating the perfect backdrop for an evening. The bar is split into two areas, the main bar and the outer terrace bar. The walls in the main bar area are adorned with artwork and books synonymous with the Bloomsbury Set, with a subtle English colonial influence. Named by the Standard as one of the ‘Best bars in London open until late’, It has a traditional member’s club feel allowing guests to relax and enjoy their evening in style. The secluded outside bar resembles a relaxed bohemian space with booths lining the exposed brickwork and a canvas of fairy lights covering the ceiling. The venue offers the perfect destination for al-fresco drinking and an idyllic spot for a romantic evening with a loved one.
