Waldegrave Arms reopens in time to welcome the Easter Bunny

By James Russell: Waldegrave Arms reopens in time to welcome the Easter Bunny

March 20, 2018

A local grade II listed village pub, situated south of Bristol in East Harptree, is reopening this week in time for Easter following a investment of £235,000 from leading community pub company Admiral Taverns.

The Waldegrave Arms is a family friendly traditional country pub, which has undergone a full internal and external refurbishment to create a warm friendly atmosphere for the local community, where residents can enjoy an extensive range of fine wines, excellent food, premium quality spirits and cask ales.

Licensees Gary and Lucy Clarke are taking the helm at the Waldegrave Arms and have relished the challenge of restoring this historic pub back to its former glory.

The pub will be serving locally sourced high-quality food with a bar snack menu, a mixed grill and steak menu on Mondays and a full 7 day a week dining menu which will include daily specials such as pork belly, lamb hotpot and a pie of the day. Lucy and Gary are also reintroducing a Sunday roast, which will be served to locals until 6pm in the evening.

The pub reopens on Friday 23rd March at 7pm with a live performance from local musician Kelly Griggs and the opportunity to sample bites from the delicious new food menu.

Commentating on the refurbishment, licensees Gary & Lucy Clarke (née Valentine) said:

“This historic pub is believed to date back to the late 15th century and was thought to be a former Church House where locals would gather together. We have loved the opportunity to re-establish the Waldegrave as a welcoming hub for the local area, staying true to its heritage but ensuring the pub can offer a warm family welcome with delicious food and an extensive bar menu.

“We’re thrilled to be opening in time for the busy Easter Weekend and we hope to see lots of familiar faces and hopefully some new ones as well.”

Commenting on the refurbishment, Admiral Taverns’ Business Development manager for Bristol, Edwin Pope, said:

“On Behalf of Admiral Taverns, I’d like to congratulate Gary and Lucy. The pub looks fantastic and they have a brilliant vision for the business which I’m certain will cement the pub back into the centre of village life and make it a real asset for the local community. We wish them and their team all the best for the opening night.”
