Hotel high tea raises funds for African charity

Elliot Berry founder of The Noah Initiative at Midland Hotel

The art-deco Midland Hotel in Morecambe has hosted a charity high tea event for The Noah Initiative (UK), which works with fatherless children and young men in the slums of Eldoret in western Kenya.

Visitors had the chance to browse and purchase goods from a Kenyan market, talk to the founder of The Noah Initiative, Elliot Berry, and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea.

Inspired by his experience of working in Africa as a counsellor and ‘house parent’ in Eldoret, Mr Berry set up The Noah Initiative charity to work with local schools and guardians to secure a better education for fatherless, abused or neglected boys.

“It was great to see so many people take an interest in this fundraising event and come along to find out more,” said Elliot Berry.

“We had about 50 people signing up for the event, with many purchasing goods from the market, making direct donations or pledging long term support by signing up to sponsor a student within our programme.  We would like to thank English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues and the staff at The Midland Hotel for hosting this event.”

The Noah Initiative is a self-financing charity and has achieved rapid success in three years.  With four bases in Eldoret, Kenya’s fifth largest city, It now has over 60 boys in the programme.  Elliot Berry moved to Kenya in 2011 and continues his work ‘in the field’, with core activity focusing on Eldoret, particularly the slum areas where there are high levels of deprivation.
