The start of another winning year at Carden Park

By James Russell: The start of another winning year at Carden Park

February 2, 2018

Carden Park Finance Team

2018 is looking to be another fruitful year at Carden Park Hotel. Having won a multitude of awards last year, including Cheshire Life’s Chef of the Year, Independent Hotelier of the Year for General Manager Paul Bayliss MBE and Cheshire’s Hotel of the Year, they have struck gold once again, this time in recognition of the commitment of their finance department.

On Thursday 25th January 2018, Carden Park’s Director of Finance Wendy Carman along with Jake Tomos and Carrie Pinches from her department, travelled down from Chester to London to receive their award for Outstanding Commitment to Financial Management Education in the Hospitality Industry at the HOSPA Annual Learner Awards Ceremony.

Carden Park beat stiff competition from a number of nominations across the industry to win this prestigious award. The team were selected as the winner by a panel from the HOSPA Professional Development Committee who were keen to acknowledge the commitment that they had demonstrated over a number of years in supporting the development of their finance and food and beverage teams.

Wendy Carman, Finance Director

Wendy was understandably delighted with the award and noted their strong relationship with HOSPA as the key catalyst to their success.

“When we were looking for a Finance Learning Programme we knew instantly that HOSPA was the right fit for Carden Park Hotel. It is an industry recognised programme that not only ensures our employees are gaining the right qualifications and knowledge but one that #teamcarden are also enthusiastic about completing. The nature of hotel accounting is very different to many industries and we wanted an exciting Finance Learning Programme that reflected this”.

Having been at the hotel for an impressive 25 years, Wendy highlighted the team retention and countless opportunities to progress in the hotel as another reason for winning the award.

“At Carden Park our ethos is to ‘grow our own’. We ensure that our team have the opportunity to develop within their roles and HOSPA has been a big part of this for our finance and food and beverage teams. The team turnover is very low for which we can partially attribute this to them feeling valued and being able to progress by completing appropriate training”.

And what of the future between these two companies? Wendy is certainly eager for the journey to continue.

“The support from HOSPA throughout our learning journey has been fantastic and we will certainly be continuing to grow our team with their programme.”

With this prestigious award coming so early in 2018, it’s certainly looking like another successful year for this Cheshire countryside hotel.

Carden Park is also on the search for it’s next hospitality stars and is holding a Careers Evening on 1st February. If you are looking to join this award winning team join them to find out about the latest opportunities.
