The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in the heart of Edinburgh is removing plastic straws from all areas of the hotel, including its bar and brasserie, One Square, and will offer guests a biodegradable alternative going forward.
The move is an example of the five star hotel’s commitment to reducing waste, energy use and CO2, and comes as part of Marriott International’s decision to remove plastic straws from more than 60 sites across its UK portfolio.
Tristan Nesbitt, General Manager, said:
“By removing plastic straws from our hotel, we have a real opportunity to play a small but significant part in reducing the volume of plastic waste which can damage our environment. This supports our commitment to being a green hotel and our work towards creating a more sustainable future through the efficient management of energy, waste and water.
He added: “Hopefully this move will help create momentum within the community and demonstrate what can be achieved ahead of any proposed legislation.”
The continued effort by Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh to improve its environmental performance has been recognised by the Green Tourism Business Scheme and has been accredited with a Silver Award.
