San Carlo Group restaurants today announced it’s to ban plastic drinking straws from all restaurants. From Wednesday 17th January only paper drinking straws will be used at each of the award winning Italian group’s eighteen UK restaurants.
It’s estimated the group uses 600,000 drinking straws every year.
Commenting on the news, San Carlo Group Managing Director, Marcello Distefano said:
As a company we have committed to use less plastic where possible, plastic drinking straws are one change we can make quite easily. Across the group we use hundreds of thousands of straws every year, for something used so briefly which goes on to do so much potential harm to the environment, it seems an obvious change to make.”
