The Derbyshire Hotel, near Derby, was purchased in October 2017, from private equity firm Starwood Capital’s, Principal Hotel Company, by Serani Hotels; Ravi Ruparelia and Rajiv Nathwani.
Serani Hotels has appointed hotel management and consultancy company Countrywide Hotels to assist them during the transition and thereafter to provide ongoing management support and development of the hotel.
The Derbyshire Hotel located near the scenic Peak District currently has 157 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, leisure club with pool, gym and treatment rooms and 14 flexible event spaces which cater for weddings, celebrations and conferences for up to 250 guests.
A £3.2 million refurbishment programme will take place over the next twelve months, and the hotel will be repositioned and rebranded as a Holiday Inn. Along with the refurbishment of the bedrooms and communal areas, there will also be the creation of new bedrooms, a signature restaurant and the introduction of a Starbucks lounge within the new open lobby.
Owner, Ravi Ruparelia said “I’m excited for The Derbyshire project and working with Countrywide Hotels to carry out our vision. We will be conducting a full refurbishment and make The Derbyshire a showpiece for the local area.”
Owner, Rajiv Nathwani said “I am pleased to have completed the purchase of The Derbyshire and am excited to share the journey of rebranding as a Holiday Inn with Countrywide Hotels. I am enthusiastic about our plans for a full scale refurbishment to bring the hotel to the full four star standard it deserves.”

The existing team are great and already perform very well, Countrywide Hotels will build on this success with a hands on approach to driving the owners return”.
