Vegan and vegetarian canteen is the newest addition to South London’s brand new creative hub

By James Russell: Vegan and vegetarian canteen is the newest addition to South London’s brand new creative hub

November 21, 2017

Launching 8th December 2017, WILDFLOWER is an informal vegetarian & vegan canteen set in the heart of Peckham Levels, an ambitious new project that will see an unused multi-story car park transformed into a creative hub of affordable creative workspaces, workshops, studios and independent businesses. WILDFLOWER will be doing  a one-off takeover at the White Horse, Peckham on Thursday 30th November 6-10pm

WILDFLOWER is the latest venture from Parched London, an independent hospitality group who first made their home in Peckham before taking on The Montpelier in 2010. Their other sites, all in South London, include The White Horse, also in Peckham, EDWINS Restaurant in Borough and Brixton Port Authority, Pop Brixton’s craft beer bar.

WILDFLOWER will serve highly crafted vegetarian and vegan food in a relaxed, communal atmosphere. At the fore of each service will be head chef Joseph Ryan who, having risen up through the ranks of Hoi Polloi and Salon in Brixton Village, has just finished the season heading up the kitchen at Peckham’s iconic summer rooftop spot Frank’s Bar, just two floors up from WILDFLOWER.

Opening for breakfast, brunch and lunch every day, WILDFLOWER’s ingredient-led offering will centre around core favourites and a daily-changing menu of dishes which are approachable, affordable, and always impeccably prepared. As well as providing for the 650 strong community working in-house at Peckham Levels, WILDFLOWER’s considered offer and unique setting will also appeal to Peckham’s wider lunch time audience, providing the neighbourhood with  nutritious options boasting a week-long appeal.

Set five floors up, WILDFLOWER commands a unique south-facing view over an otherwise unseen aspect of Peckham Rye. Windows running the entire length of the space are lined with a canopy of trees that border the neighbouring railway line and eventually meet with Peckham Levels nearest neighbour, the Bussey Building. This green vista will be complimented inside by extensive planting and an ingenious fit out from design agency Busby Webb, whose recent commissions include Bon Vivant in Bloomsbury and Samarkand on Charlotte Street.

Over the weekend the focus of the service will shift slightly, not only accommodating those destination diners who alight at Peckham Rye from all over London, but also aligning WILDFLOWER with its night-time counterpart GHOSTNOTES, a music venue and late night bar serving crafted cocktails, London-brewed beer and a seven-day programme of live shows and parties. Whilst enjoying a specials-heavy brunch menu influenced by Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, diners will also be able to immerse themselves in music from DJs and selectors from all over the world, with one venue gradually transforming into the other as the evening arrives.
