Pride of Britain Hotels is delighted to announce that Sopwell House in Hertfordshire has joined its luxury collection of independently-owned UK hotels.
Set in 12 acres of grounds close to St Albans, Hertfordshire, the grand Georgian house is the former country residence of Lord Mountbatten. Today, it’s a wonderful retreat within easy reach of London and has been in the Bejerano family for 30 years. Host Tony Hellawell is an expert on the hotel’s history as well as St Albans itself.
Inside, the hotel’s contemporary style is an eclectic mix of vintage French fashion magazine covers and fine art animal giclée prints by artist Dan Hillier. The hotel’s 128 bedrooms and suites include sixteen gated Mews Suites, set in a lovely landscaped garden.
Dining options include two AA-Rosette The Restaurant, which serves seasonal British and European dishes. The Brasserie is a more relaxed affair, centred around an open-plan kitchen, offering classic dishes alongside daily specials inspired by cuisine from around the globe.
Partnered with ESPA and Clarins, the chic spa is set around a relaxing pool area with a 14.5m pool, whirlpool, children’s pool and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the extensive grounds. There is also a thermal area with sauna, steam room and heated tepidarium bench, plus a relaxing spa garden.
