The Kings Arms graces customers with a new look

By James Russell: The Kings Arms graces customers with a new look

November 20, 2017

The Kings Arms, located in the thriving market town of Ulverston, has re-opened after a 4-week investment from Robinsons Brewery. Fit for a King, the recent refurbishment has been well received by locals and new visitors alike, with increasing sales to prove it.

Acquired by Robinsons Brewery in 1982, the Kings Arms was previously a male dominated wet led pub, which relied upon pool teams and live sport. However, Robinsons’ design team have transformed this dated drinkery into a classic London style, female and family friendly pub, which now serves delicious food seven days a week.

Steve Robinson, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said: “We wanted the new look to be in keeping with the period of the architecture, sympathetic to the building and the town’s origins, and a real showcase of the pub’s period features. It’s still very much a traditional pub, with all the copper fittings, but we’ve introduced a new food and drinks menu which we hope will attract a broader range of customers. The renovation has hailed a new era for the Kings Arms, one that is accessible, inclusive, and friendly with lots to enjoy.”

Internally, the bar, one of the most striking features of the pub, is still located in the same position but it has been tastefully revamped with a modern tiled back bar, showcasing the wide selection of drinks available; including premium spirits, wines and continental lagers.

Contemporary furniture and deep button leather banquet seating means everyone can enjoy the best seat in the house, together with cutting-edge lighting to illuminate the gleaming new look and create the perfect mood for socialising and meeting new people. The walls throughout have been updated with traditional dado wall panelling and house of hackney velour floral fabrics and drapes, partnered with glossy Victorian ceramic wall tile designs in the newly refurbished bathroom areas.

Externally, the Kings Arms has been decked out with new signage and an upgraded alfresco drinking area with comfortable seating, festoon lighting and a roaring open fire, creating the perfect atmosphere for casual evening drinks. In fact, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were still in the pub’s lounge, such is the warmth and comfort provided.

Mary McMeechan, Manager at the Kings Arms, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the refurbishment. There’s a new team, a new look, and it’s the beginning of a new start for the Kings Arms. We would like to thank the locals of Ulverston for the warm welcome they have given us. The reaction to our renovation has been overwhelming, with soaring sales to prove it. Both inside and out, the pub now has a much more relaxed ambiance and the scheme feels very timeless; whatever your age or gender. We are thrilled that our existing loyal customers have expressed how pleased they are with the fresh look, but it’s also encouraging to see that the new look has attracted new customers as well. The fact that a diverse range of people now feel happy and comfortable to come and enjoy some nice food and drinks here makes us very proud, as we are broadening the overall appeal for all.”

Open seven days a week, the Kings Arms is now serving scrumptious classic pub dishes alongside a wide-range of premium drinks. Whatever the occasion, the Kings Arms is open to entertain and cater for all.
