One of Bracknell’s oldest and most loved buildings, The Bull, has been given a new lease of life with the help of premium pub company, Young’s. Synonymous with serving seasonal British food and drink, from craft beers and classic gin and tonics to fine wine, Young’s have unveiled its first site in Berkshire, in the heart of the town centre, at The Lexicon, Bracknell’s new retail and leisure destination.
A pub of legend
The Grade II listed building stands at the heart of the town centre and has undergone an extensive refurbishment to restore it to its former glory as well as having the addition of a modern, light and airy extension to the rear. Full of character, with elements dating from the 14th, 15th and 20th centuries, the interior perfectly merges the old with the new. The original white and black frontage reminiscent of the Tudor era remains, but is now complemented with a large south-facing terrace and striking glass extension. Original wooden beams, impressive arches and exposed brick walls are given a modern touch, interspersed with turquoise and floral upholstered chairs alongside tweed and leather seating. Original working fireplaces, providing the perfect spot for British winters, are now surrounded by vibrant turquoise tiles and add to the majestic feel whilst the central bar features rounded edges and stunning carpentry detail.
A bullish menu to suit all appetites
Serving up a prestigious menu of classic British fayre, The Bull is open seven days a week from lunch right through to dinner, serving up innovative dishes that change as the seasons dictate. Start the day off right with brunch dishes such as smashed avocado with toasted sourdough and poached heritage eggs; or buttermilk crispy chicken with pancakes and maple syrup. A new offering of British charcuterie boards showcases some of the region’s best produce including a Mac ‘n’ cheese Scotch egg, bubble & squeak croquettes and homemade vegetable crisps and dips.
The steaks are raised with The Bull’s impressive selection of mains and seasonal specials including maple & thyme glazed short rib of beef with mashed butternut squash; pan fried hake with butter bean puree and roasted plum tomatoes; and a 28-day aged Angus sirloin steak with triple cooked chips. Pub classics are not forgotten with The Bull cheeseburger and the Young’s ale-battered cod & chips. Perennially popular puds come in the form of a pineapple upside down cake with custard; blackberry & apple crumble; and a selection of the finest British cheeses with pickles and chutney.
Drinks
Young & Co.’s award winning cask ales take pride of place on the bar, whilst supporting acts include wonderful London craft beers on draught from Camden Brewery alongside local hero Siren’s Yu Lu Pale Ale. In addition, an impressive selection of hand crafted gins and premium spirits on offer include the likes of Sipsmiths and Little Bird.
