Havant based country pub The Wheelwright’s Arms, is celebrating being named in the ‘Good Beer Guide’ for the first time. The traditional country pub has been selected for the Good Beer Guide 2018, which is produced by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and includes the best 4,500 pubs for beer across the UK.
The Wheelwright’s Arms, part of premium pub collective Upham Pub Group, is a traditional 150 year-old pub that offers seasonal and locally sourced produce, delicious food and premium drinks – including real ales from its own Upham brewery.
The Good Beer Guide, now in its 45th edition, is completely independent with listings based entirely on nomination and evaluation by CAMRA members who regularly visit pubs across the country and provide a rating based on the standard of beers on offer. This means consumers can trust that all pubs listed come recommended by people who are both knowledgeable and passionate about good beer. The guide also raises money to invest into campaigning for real ale, community pubs, and drinkers’ rights.
General manager of The Wheelwright’s Arms, Dave Livingstone comments: “When I found out that we’d been chosen, despite tough competition across the UK, I was absolutely delighted. This is arguably the go-to book for drinkers so we’re really pleased. Now that we’re named in the book we want to ensure the pub remains at this standard and keeps improving.
“In terms of business, I’m hoping this will help bring more trade to Havant. There are a couple of other local pubs that have been featured for the first time too, so it’s great to represent the area alongside them. If people are visiting the town, going to the football or are stuck at the station, they might check the guide and come here because of it.”
