Leading glassware supplier, Libbey, whose products are distributed exclusively to the UK foodservice market by Artis, is hosting Glassology, its second glassware design competition for bar professionals.
In recent years, drinks presentation and, in particular, the selection of glassware has become equally as important as the drink. Now Libbey is challenging drinks professionals from around the world to design their own glassware. In the European ‘Glassology’ by Libbey design competition, it’s not the drink that takes centre stage but the glass it’s served in. Last year, Robert Schinkel of The Netherlands wowed the judges with this breathtaking creation, The Tulip Punch Bowl.
The competition calls upon professionals to disregard existing styles and preconceptions about glassware and to come up with their own innovative design that will lift a reinvented cocktail, their newest boozy creation or simply just a cup of coffee, to a new level. Designs will be judged on creativity, innovation and originality. The winner will have the pleasure of seeing their design put into production by Libbey and distributed around the globe. They will also be allowed to name the new creation and will receive 250 pieces of their own glass. Additionally, they will become one of the judges in the next Glassology by Libbey design contest and act as the Glassology ambassador at the renowned Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.
Contestants are invited to compete over an eight month period for one of the coveted places in the final, which will be held at the Perfect Serve Bar Show, Amsterdam in May 2018. Bar professionals can register for the competition here. Here they will find a full explanation of the rules and timings.
The full range of Libbey’s current glassware may be seen in the 2017 Artis catalogue which is available online here or caterers may request their own hard copy by calling 020 8391 5544.
