Fairmont St Andrews will host two open evenings on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 20th September for future hospitality apprentices, as part of their unique three year Hospitality Apprenticeship programme.
The open days, in partnership with training providers Xtra-Mile.com, will be available to all school leavers in the Fife area. Taking place at the five-star resort, both open days will showcase the hotel’s ground breaking hospitality scheme to inspire the next generation of hospitality and tourism leaders. Pupils will take part in interactive sessions from directors, including from General Manger John Keating, Anneliese Archibald of Xtra-mile.com and engage with successful candidates who have completed the Modern Apprenticeship programme and gained a qualification.
Underlining their positions as leaders in the hospitality sector, Fairmont St Andrews remains the only hotel in Scotland to offer such a wide ranging hospitality qualification scheme. Youngsters will understand the wide ranging departments and see first hand the opportunities available for a career in the five-star service industry, from front of house, reception, food & beverage, housekeeping, chef and for the first time, golf.
North East Fife MP Stephen Gethins has welcomed efforts by Fairmont St Andrews to enhance employment opportunities for young people in the local area. He said: “It is always good to hear of initiatives which provide people with employment and opportunities which will enable them to learn new skills and open up career pathways.
I’m pleased that Fairmont St Andrews has taken this step and hope that local young people will realise the chance to receive training and on the job experience which will give them a range of skills vital to the modern workplace. It is also good to know that Fairmont has taken a decision to invest in the local area and, by working with schools, will be providing employment which also benefits the local economy.”
Fairmont St Andrews general manager, John Keating commented: “We are dedicated to developing local talent and skills as part of our ongoing investment in the community. This hospitality scheme provides a great platform for future colleagues to train within the tourism and hospitality industry and will not only add value to the business but to their own development and future career prospects.”
Anneliese Archibald, managing director for Xtra-Mile.com commented: “We are really looking forward to joining Fairmont St Andrews and sharing the exciting avenues available within the hospitality industry. The evening will offer visitors and pupils the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and an insight into the knowledge they can learn on the job, while achieving an industry-recognised qualification.”
