Almost a year since the last earthquake hit Umbria, destroying the road from Norcia to the picturesque town of Castelluccio in the heart of the Sibillini mountains, the region is celebrating the reopening of the road, allowing access to the village famous for the production of some of the best lentils in the world.
Palazzo Seneca in Norcia was the first hotel to reopen following the earthquake. The hotel is owned by the Bianconi family, who have been in hospitality in the area for the last 150 years and are still a driving force in the community.
With 60% of Norcia’s businesses reopening by the end of August, all local producers back at work and the reopening of the road, the area is ready to welcome visitors again as one of the best foodie destinations in Italy, surrounded by an amazing landscape giving endless opportunities to explore.
